FAQs
What does it mean to be "twice exceptional"?
The term "twice exceptional" refers to children who are intellectually or creatively gifted and also experience learning challenges such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, specific learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder, or other conditions that make success in school elusive.
What is the purpose of the 2e Seattle group?
It is meant to be a source of support, information, and advocacy for families affected by dual exceptionality. We have monthly meetings on topics relevant to the community, maintain an ongoing Facebook group that is closed, keep a list of resources, and as much as possible speak up for the rights and needs of our unique children.
Does 2e Seattle only welcome parents whose children are enrolled in Seattle Public Schools, participating in an advanced learning program, and/or served by an IEP or 504 plan?
We tend to focus on Seattle Public Schools (SPS), and many of the children are served by SPSs Advanced Learning programs and supported with IEPs or 504 plans—but we also welcome members from private schools, homeschoolers, and neighboring communities. In fact, some of our members have experience in multiple settings. Anyone who suspects his or her child fits the description is welcome to participate.
I would like to join your mailing list but am concerned about privacy. Is there a way to join anonymously?
The group leader keeps a list of emails that are not attached to names. The list is used to inform members of specific upcoming 2e Seattle events, and nothing else. The list is never shared or with anyone and is unavailable to anyone except the group leader.
I have other questions. To whom should I direct them?
For questions about 2eSeattle (twice exceptionality more generally) or our Facebook page, please contact us at [email protected]. Questions about Seattle Public Schools’ Advanced Learning programs can be directed to Advanced Learning SPS.
